You do realize that I got to that point in the baltop before I became staff. Most of the staff got money thru doing things like Mobarena when their were no players online. Also, you shouldnt expect to have any sort of compensation for being staff. As staff you are there to make the server better for your own enjoyment thru making sure players follow the rules so everyone can enjoy their time. Honestly, this entire thread is very pointless, there are only a few servers out there that are actually willing to compensate their staff and that is mostly big servers like Hypixel, mineplex, etc. I Didnt come here to fight, Just to state my opinion on how stupid this seems. The only person I've ever seen that truly doesnt enjoy their time as staff was Mattvenom where he resigned from staff (after literally not even a day) for something as stupid as "It wasn't as fun as I thought it would be."
"...it doesn't feel like you're playing a game because you want to play a game, it feels like you're logging hours onto the server because you have to". If this is what it feels like for you to be staff then you need to resign, no one is forcing you to play the game in this fashion and you should only do things that benefit yourself.
"The problem is that they end up finding out that being a staff member means that you have to deal with players on the server who either have a problem, or are causing problems for other players on the server". This is literally the job of what staff does. No one who has a problem doing this should ever become staff in the first place. People are going to have a problem with you stopping their farming of new players and breaking of rules.
"For one, when you have a problem that you can solve for yourself in the server, instead of asking for a staff member immediately, try googling it, looking through /help and /rules, and asking your fellow players first before you ask a staff member on how to do a basic task on the server". Staff are here to help players in whatever way possible, having a problem with answering a silly question like, "what is the recipe for a door" shouldn't be a problem for a staff member and does not require a sassy remark, just answer it. We have no control over the actions of a player so enforcing them to "google it" would literally be impossible unless we started punishing for questions like the one above.
"Following this etiquette would make things drastically easier for staff members". Being a staff member doesn't categorize under "easy". You don't sign up to get free god and fly, you sign up to help players with what they need. If that takes time out of your towny building skills, then so be it. You are volunteering for a job, not being given a donor rank.
"Why not pay staff members for doing staff work (this is very specific, since making it to where they wouldn't have to pay money on stuff like taxes, or just paying them for time spent online would both end up displacing the economy be a significant amount.) seeing as how staff have access to chat logs, why not pay staff members for time, or commission at the end of the week for every time that they dealt with a player in a responsible and effective way". As Zur said above, this is just stupid. Not only do you not specify how we pay them (real life money or in-game money) it also would cause more players to want to become staff because it is literally free rewards. We want quality staff who are looking out for players, not money hungry ones who are just there to get a job done. Easily the dumbest point.
